Anemia is a condition characterized by a deficiency of red blood cells, which impairs the body’s ability to transport sufficient oxygen to tissues. It can be either temporary or chronic:
Symptoms of anemia include fatigue and weakness due to the inadequate oxygen supply to the body, making daily activities more challenging. Addressing nutritional deficiencies can be crucial in preventing and managing anemia effectively.
Nutritional deficiencies occur when the body fails to absorb or receive enough essential nutrients from food. Vitamins and minerals are crucial for proper bodily development and disease prevention. Even when consuming a balanced diet, some individuals may still struggle to absorb these nutrients, leading to deficiencies. Such nutrient shortages can result in various health issues, including:
This capsule is indicated for the treatment and prophylaxis of Iron, Folic Acid, and Zinc deficiency, especially during pregnancy and lactation.
Common side effects may include gastrointestinal irritation (nausea, vomiting, anorexia, constipation, diarrhea) and dark stools. The Carbonyl Iron pellets in the capsules help reduce gastrointestinal irritation. Rarely, allergic reactions may occur.
This timed-release capsule is a combined preparation of Carbonyl Iron, Folic Acid, and Zinc Sulphate Monohydrate. Carbonyl Iron, which contains not less than 98% iron, is a safer and more effective option for iron supplementation due to its high bioavailability and low toxicity.
Adults: One capsule daily before food, or as directed by a physician.
Symptoms of overdose include decreased energy, nausea, abdominal pain, tarry stool, weak and rapid pulse, fever, coma, and seizures.
Carbonyl Iron can decrease the absorption of tetracycline antibiotics, quinolone antibiotics, levodopa, levothyroxine, methyldopa, and penicillamine. Folic Acid may reduce the plasma concentrations of antiepileptic drugs such as phenobarbital, phenytoin, and primidone.
This capsule is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any of its components or those with iron overload conditions.
Use of any drug during the first trimester of pregnancy should be avoided unless there is definite evidence of iron deficiency. Supplementation of iron, folic acid, and zinc is recommended during the remainder of pregnancy when the diet is inadequate.
Caution should be exercised in patients with iron overload conditions like hemochromatosis, hemolytic anemia, or red blood cell aplasia. Failure to respond to treatment requires further investigation to rule out other causes of anemia. Zinc accumulation risk exists in patients with renal failure.
Store below 30°C, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
